It is a large tree or shrub, a pioneer tree, grows to a height of 10 to 15 m, lives for approximately 60 years

Botanical description

Habitus: broom-shaped and irregular crown, the trunk is up to 50 cm in diameter, the bark is gray, green and smooth, longitudinally cracked dark gray, furrowed, the buds are ovoid-conical, the shoots are hairy red-brown; leaves are 3 to 4 mm long, flowers up to 8 mm long

Leaf: simple, alternate, elliptic leaves, the leaf blade is elliptic to inverted ovoid, 5 to 11 cm long and 3 to 5 cm wide, with 7 to 11 pairs of veins, dark green on the face, glaucous to bare, gray-white on the back, felty, with pronounced veining, the petiole of the leaves is 15 to 30 mm long

Flower: it blooms in March to April, the flowers are short catkins, the fruits contain downy seeds, spread by the wind over long distances

Fruits: a large gray fluffy conical capsule with a long stem, the capsules are grouped in fringed large clusters
