Botanical description

Habitus: The trunk of the white willow is irregular, up to 1.5 m in diameter, and the branches are horizontal. It grows up to 20 m high and has a large and airy canopy. The bark of a young tree is whitish and hairy, later when bare it becomes light to dark gray, 3-4 cm thick. Young branches are light brown in colour, also covered with hairs and are very elastic. 

Flower: The flowers are collected in fringes, their length is 7 cm, and they are created at the same time as the leaves. Female flowers have one glabrous carpel and one nectary, have two lobes of the snout and are bent to the side. Male flowers have 2 stamens, and at the base they have two nectaries, and the anthers are golden yellow in colour. Willow flowers in March and April.

Leaves: elongated, pointed and toothed leaves, the colour of which varies from light green to gray-green. They are 5-12 cm long and 1-2 cm wide. in autumn they turn yellow, before they fall off for the winter.

Growth conditions / Cultivation / Care

It prefers well-drained soil, it thrives best on sandy soil, if it can also grow in clay and loamy soils. It prefers a cool to humid climate with sufficient moisture in the soil.
