Native to Europe and North America.

Botanical description

Habitus: Medium to large shrub. 

Leaf: Leaves are entire, oval in shape with prominent veins, the foliage usually of conspicuous colours (variegated).

Flower: Flowers white, yellow or pink, blooming before leafing out (February-March).

Fruit: Fruit is pendulous, round or oblong, ovoid.

Growth conditions / Cultivation / Care

They thrive in sun or light shade. They are suitable for ordinary garden soils, but some species do not tolerate lime soils. Pruning is necessary for bushy forms, where old shoots are cut out to rejuvenate the bush.
