Habitat / Home / Areal

It grows naturally in the Far East – Japan, Korea, China.

Botanical description

Habitus: A climber that can grow up to 20 meters in height. It has a strong canopy. It grows very quickly, therefore it is classified as an invasive species. It takes 20 years to reach its full size.

Flower: purple, violet-blue or white flowers that are gathered in hanging clusters. They bloom in May, and sometimes there is a second bloom at the end of summer. Wisteria fruits are oblong pods that contain numerous seeds.

Leaves: The leaves are compound, oddly pinnate and alternate.

Growth conditions / Cultivation / Care

It likes sunlight, it needs a minimum of 5-6 hours of direct light for optimal growth. The most ideal for its growth is loose soil, poor in lime. It tolerates low temperatures up to -15°C.

Special use

It is used in perfume production due to the intoxicating smell of the flower. Wisteria bark, pods and seeds are extremely poisonous.
