It originates from the southeastern part of North America.

Botanical description

Habitus: deciduous climber. It climbs with the help of aerial roots and reaches a height of up to 20 meters.

Flower: trumpet-shaped, orange or red, can grow up to 8 cm. They are collected in clusters of 3-12 in an inflorescence. There are four anthers, two in pairs. It blooms from June to September. The fruit is a 10-20 cm long quiver containing numerous flat, winged seeds.

Leaf: opposite, odd pinnate, composed of 7-11 oval leaflets. They have rough jagged edges, a pointed tip, are dark green, lighter on the underside.

Growth conditions / Cultivation / Care

It grows well in a sunny, warm, protected place. It seeks shade in the root area, which is why it is good to plant a low ground cover at its base. It is grown on nutritious, well-drained soil. The developed specimens are resistant to frost, they tolerate low temperatures up to -20 °C
