Habitat / Home / Areal

It is naturally distributed in East Asia (Japan, China).

Botanical description

Habitus: deciduous shrub from the rose family (Rosaceae). It grows up to 1 meter in height and up to 2 meters in width. The branches are thick, upright, covered with hairs when young, covered with numerous thorns.

Flower: The flowers are bisexual, pink, almost sessile, up to 3 cm in diameter, single or grouped by 2-6 in clusters on last year’s twigs. Calyx and corolla consist of five sepals and five petals, stamens are numerous, pistils are five. They bloom before leafing from February to April. The fruit is round to ovoid, about 5 cm in size, yellowish, ripens in October. 

Leaf: alternate, ovate-elongated, 3-5 cm long, slightly pointed tip, serrated edges, located on short petioles.

Growth conditions / Cultivation / Care

Deep humus soil, moist and well-drained places; normal, slightly alkaline soil; moderate climate; sunny habitat
