Botanical description

Habitus: a straight trunk and a large ovoid, irregular to pyramidal, conical to spherical crown, the bark is light brown to reddish brown, greyish brown, typical protruding lenticels form on the bark, the bark is smooth and shiny

Leaf: Petioles are about 4 cm long, glabrous or sparsely hairy, leaf blades are about 10 cm long and about 6 cm wide, ovateor elliptic, toothed at the base shortly cuneate or rounded, apex with a long point; the edges are irregularly glandular-serrate or double glandular-serrate, on the face they are not shiny.

Flower: the buds are arranged in a spiral, the flowers are monoecious, they are about 2 – 3  cm in diameter and there are 2-6 of them in an approximately sessile circle, the flower stalks are about 4 cm long, bare. The hypanthium is crenate, glabrous, the calyx teeth are ovate, blunt, entire-margined, curved at the top, the corolla petals are five-numbered, they grow in the surrounding bundles, they are about 12 mm long, white or pink, round-ovate with a short clove, shallowly cut in front.

Fruit: , the fruit is a spherical, smooth drupe – cherry. It has a diameter of 5 — 15 mm. It is yellowish, light or dark red to black. The flesh is hard or soft, juicy, sweet or bitter. The stones, which are about 0.7 cm long, are one-seeded, ovoid, ovoid-ellipsoid or even spherical and are smooth. The fruit has a high water content. It ripens from May to July and is an important source of minerals (magnesium, iron, iodine, phosphorus, zinc, calcium, potassium and silicon) and vitamins (A, B, C, E and P).
