Habitat / Home / Areal

Cedars are tall evergreen trees native to Mediterranean countries, and east to the Himalayas.

Botanical description

Habitus: Pyramidal growth when young, asymmetrical when old; bark strongly fissured on older trees; needle colour varies from varieties: grey to blue-silver, golden yellow, snow-white (when young). Grows up to 40 m tall. Branches are horizontally erect, the tips and twigs drooping at the end.

Flower: Monoecious flowers.

Fruit: Long, ovate, erect, blue-brown cones, obtuse at the end, 8-12 cm long.

Leaf: Needles much longer, growing in dense tufts, light green.
